Terms of Service

1. Welcome to Serendib

Serendib is a marriage-focused dating app for Sri Lankans living in the United States. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are the agreement between you and Serendib.

By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Serendib.

2. You must be 18 or older

Serendib is for adults only.

• You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the app.
• We check your age when you sign up and again with a date-of-birth check during profile setup.
• If we find that you are under 18, we will remove your account.

3. Your account

• You are responsible for keeping your login details safe.
• You agree to give true, accurate information about yourself (real name, real age, real photos of you).
• You are responsible for everything that happens under your account.
• One person, one account. Do not impersonate anyone else.
• Tell us right away at support@meetserendib.com if you think someone else is using your account.

4. Acceptable use and community guidelines

Serendib is built for sincere people looking for a serious relationship. To keep it safe and respectful, you agree not to:

• Harass, threaten, bully, or abuse anyone.
• Scam, defraud, or deceive anyone, or ask other users for money.
• Impersonate another person or create a fake profile.
• Post hateful, violent, sexually explicit, or illegal content.
• Share another person's private information without their consent.
• Upload photos or videos that are not you, or that you do not have the right to share.
• Use the app for advertising, spam, or any commercial purpose.
• Try to break, hack, copy, or misuse the app or its data.
• Use the app if you are a convicted sex offender or are otherwise barred by law from a service like this.

Block and report

Every user can block and report others. If a profile gets 3 or more reports, it may be automatically hidden while our Trust & Safety team reviews it. We may remove content, hide profiles, suspend, or ban accounts that break these rules. We can do this at our discretion to protect the community.

5. Your content

• You keep ownership of the photos, videos, and text you post.
• By posting, you give Serendib permission to store and display your content so the app can work (for example, showing your profile to potential matches).
• You are responsible for what you post and confirm you have the right to post it.
• We may remove content that breaks these Terms.

6. Safety and verification

• We use selfie verification to help confirm users are real people.
• Verification helps but is not a guarantee of anyone's identity, intentions, or background. We do not run criminal background checks.
• Always use good judgment. Meet in public, tell a friend your plans, and protect your personal and financial information. You interact with other users at your own risk.

7. Subscriptions, free trial, and billing

• Serendib offers a 7-day free trial, and then a paid subscription of $4.99 per month (or the local equivalent and any taxes).
• Subscriptions renew automatically each month until you cancel.
• Billing is handled by the App Store (Apple) or Google Play, not directly by Serendib. Your subscription is charged to your Apple or Google account.
• To cancel, manage your subscription in your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial or renewal date to avoid the next charge.
• If you cancel during the free trial, you will not be charged. Once a paid period starts, charges are generally non-refundable except where required by law or by Apple's or Google's own refund rules.
• Prices and features may change. We will give notice of price changes as required by the app stores and the law.

8. No guarantee of matches or results

Serendib helps you meet people, but we cannot promise that you will find a match, a date, or a marriage. We do not guarantee the behavior of any user. The app is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not promise the app will always be available, error-free, or uninterrupted.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law:

• Serendib is not liable for the actions, conduct, or content of any user, online or in person.
• Serendib is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app.
• If we are found liable for anything, our total responsibility to you is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the last 12 months or US $100.

Some states do not allow certain limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

10. Termination

• You can stop using Serendib and delete your account at any time (in the app or on our website).
• We can suspend or end your account if you break these Terms, misuse the app, or put others at risk.
• Some sections of these Terms continue to apply after your account ends (such as content licenses already granted, limitation of liability, and dispute terms).

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the courts located in California, unless the law requires otherwise.

At this time, Serendib does not require mandatory arbitration or a class-action waiver. Disputes are handled in the California courts as described above. We may add an arbitration clause in a future version of these Terms; if we do, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the app grows or the law changes. When we make an important change, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. If you keep using Serendib after a change, you accept the updated Terms.
